Musik/Music

I am an enthusiastic musician and play piano, organ and violin. Furthermore, I hold the German organ degree "D".  As such, I regularly play organ at different occasions (Services, weddings, ...).

If you are interested in my services, I would be glad hearing from you.

This is the Reger organ in Meiningen. In this fantastic setting, I got my first organ lesson many years ago.

2023 - Organ experience in Austria

Burgenland

You might remember the nice picture of the organ of the protestant church of Markt Allau (above). What I didn't show you is the more adventurous path towards the organ bench (below). If you don't pay attention, your way down might be faster than you wish for! The bench is located next to the steep stair case.

Similar to last year, I was able to attend the famous annual organ seminar "Werkwoche" in Burgenland in Austria. I had the opportunity to test many different organs and learned a lot about music theory and playing technics.

At the end of the seminar all participants took part in a final concert with singing and organ playing. I was allowed to play the organ of the protestant church of Pinkafeld, and was very happy when the lecturers praised my performance!

Based on my experience in England, I chose a piece of William Lloyd Webber and worked on it together with the Austrian state cantor (Landeskantor).

This is a step forward to a C-diploma in church music!

Vienna

This year I was invited to be part of a concert in Vienna to play Buxtehude. The concert took place at the Lutherkirche which is one of the most famous protestant churches in Vienna.

The nice window opposing the playing table of the organ shows the picture of Johann Sebastian Bach - what a motivating idea!

2022 - Organ experience in Austria

Burgenland

This year I had fun participating in an organ seminar in the town of Oberschützen (a part of the Music University Graz). I had the opportunity to test many different organs during this week and got lessons from different accomplished organists and church musicians to improve my skills in playing and conducting.

Organ of the protestant church in Markt Allau. The organ is located directly behind the altar. Ascending to the console is an adventure in itself. You need to be free from giddiness.

Organ of the catholic church in Bad Tatzmannsdorf. The church and organ look very modern.

Organ at the cultural centre of the Music University Graz in Oberschützen. The organ is located on a big stage so that you get a proper concert feeling.

Vienna

This is the church of Breitenfeld where I found two nice organs to play. While the large organ is now under construction, the nice choir organ next to the altar with one manual and the most beautiful soprano registers is now my place to practise.

I see some nice recordings coming.

2021 - Organ experience in Vienna, Austria

After two wonderful years in Cambridge, learning a lot about English choir music and meeting great people, I had to leave England to start a new post-doc position in Vienna. While I miss my English friends and the extraordinary music I was allowed to be a part of, I finally arrived in the city of music! For the next couple of weeks this will be my new organ in the church of Breitenfeld. The organ will be restored next year so I will get to know more Viennese organs in order to stay in practice.

2021 - Organ experience after lockdown in Cambridge, UK

Lockdown is over in Cambridge since July, and I could return to practice.

During the organ summer, the lovely people of St. John's Church asked me to play for them, and so I made some recordings. I hope you enjoy them.

1) Michel - Intrada in Jazz

2) Bach - Jesu Joy (BWV 147)

3) Arnold & Price - Sherlock

4) Dubois - Toccata

5) Webber - Festal March

2020 - Organ experience during lockdown in Cambridge, UK

After five months of lockdown and prohibition of playing organ, I was back at the beginning of August after the rules were eased!

The organ at St. John's Church in Cambridge sounded great as always and welcomed me in a clean and sanitised state.

To celebrate the end of lockdown I recorded a number of videos.

2019 - Organ experience in Cambridge, UK

Since October my new home is Cambridge in Great Britain where I work at university.

Thanks to the nice people of St. John's Parish Church I am able to practice at this nice pneumatic organ with my first radial pedal! I am looking forward to learn a lot about the English music culture and hopefully, there will be many concerts in the near future.

2018 - Organ experience in Germany

Biebra - Thuringia (Thüringen)

I was asked to play at a service for the Sunday in commemoration of the dead. It was rainy and freezing. Nevertheless, the organ in the small village of Biebra compensates every bad weather.

2017 - Organ experience in Germany

Erfurt - Thuringia (Thüringen)

With my colleagues from MPIA, I visited the Augustinerkloster in Erfurt, where Martin Luther lived from 1505 until 1511. I was allowed to play the organ at the belonging Augustinerkirche shortly before Reformation day.

Together with my music and astronomy friend Miriam.
Together with my music and astronomy friend Miriam.

This year, Christians celebrate the 500th anniversary of Reformation. This makes the monastery an important historical place and it was a pleasure and honour to play there!

Stadtroda - Thuringia (Thüringen)

Me, playing the organ of the village church at Martins and Chris wedding. Many thanks for the engagement. It was a lot of fun although I look very concentrated here!

Preparing for the wedding of Martin and Chris. The atmosphere was fantastic!

Heidelberg - Baden-Württemberg

I was invited to play the organ of Stift Neuburg in Heidelberg. If you miss the organist, she is sitting behind the "Rückpositiv" (the pipes in front).

2016 - Organ experience in Budapest, Hungary

Me, playing the organ of the church at Kálvin square with organist Tamás Bódiss from the Ferenc Liszt Music Academy.
